So.
Well.
This season makes the most sense if one assumes no one who worked on Picard S2 talked to anyone who worked on Picard S3.
Which leads to the fantastic idea that what if - what if - all three seasons of Picard can be read as three alternative universes?
This solves more continuity problems than it creates. Which says something about the showrunning quality.
So Picard S3 doesn't exist in my universe, except for the tiny bits I like. Its unnecessary biological essentialism revolving around Jack Crusher doesn't exist. Its resurrection of Data - how many times are we up to? - against his previously stated wishes, doesn't exist. I'm keeping Raffi and Worf, and thowing out this iteration of Borg nonsense. I'm hanging on to wacky nebulas that give birth to glowy space creatures, and throwing out Admiral Shelby being brought back just to die. I'm keeping Shaw being a bundle of Wolf 359 TSD, but how it was used - what a waste. This is a man who needs his ass kicked by some therapists and maybe a Sisko cameo.
Oh wow, you know what? You could transfer the entire Previously Unknown Son With Borg Connections plot to Shaw 90% intact and abolutely destroy him. Wolf 359, intermittent failure to cope, girlfriend breaks up with Shaw-the-asshole with extreme prejudice, Not So Smol Son appears in Shaw's life, Plot Twists punch Shaw & Son in the face and kick Shaw in the sensitive masculine bits.
"But sprocket, Shaw wasn't assim-"
"-shush! I am having a good time torturing minor characters here and I will not ruin it with facts."
The conversion of the Titan to the Enterprise-G left me, a person of the DS9, Voyager, and Discovery eras, completely cold. The end tag was annoying, because the viewers, bound by linear time, have closed out their Q emotional arc, and also I still don't give a damn about Jack Crusher.
What I do care about is the lack of Laris. Could've had a retired Romulan spy along for the ride, but noooooo, not the old women in a sci-fi series! That's even worse than old men!
