I matched on Babylon 5, and when I saw Timov in the prompt (with Lady Alys on the Vorkosigan request), I knew who I wanted to write. Diving into canon, as well as power-skimming the Centauri Prime tie-in novels for Timov's later adventures as Empress, helped me figure out what to write.

Perilous Gard is a childhood favorite. When it popped up on the pinch hit list, I snagged it without a second thought. Second thoughts came during eleventh-hour editing. It will be interesting to come back to this in a few months and see how well the voices hold up when the dust has settled.

I'm hugely indebted to raspberryhunter for rapid and insightful beta, especially on Knight. If "What is Dark Within Me, Illuminate" is in one consistent tense, and has a consistent thematic tone, it's entirely thanks to her. Any remaining slipups are all mine.
