When I say these are all TV shows / novels / etc of my heart, I am not kidding around.
Babylon 5 is my touchstone for how to do multiseason plot arcs. There is a straight line between clues and developments in first season - maybe even the pilot - and the very end of the fifth season. There's a very clear understanding of where the arcs need to touch down, and how to flex with circumstances to achieve that. It is far from perfect, but what it does well, it does really well. ("We have unfinished business between us, G'Kar." That still gives me shivers.)
Etta seems more like a Bishop to me, too. I wonder how much of that can be attributed to the world she grew up in?
Hmm, good question! I could argue it either way. Yes, the Obserververse was probably far from a walk in the park for little Etta. But how she reacts to that world... Olivia had a tough childhood too, so a comparison may be in order.
If the four novels of the Steerswoman series were all we got, I'd be appreciative, but I still hope for a fifth novel. (Or maybe even the end of the series, some day.) If you check Kistein's blog, every now and then she posts a tidbit about working on the next book. It was massively derailed for the last year by a cancer diagnosis. The treatment has so far been successful, and I hope Kirstein continues in good health for a long time, fifth novel or no.
