For [community profile] trickortreatex, I received three gift fics: two in POI, and one in Fringe.

Mirror (1072 words) by dragons_and_angels
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Person of Interest (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Sameen Shaw, Genrika Zhirova, Bear (Person of Interest)
Additional Tags: Episode: s03e05 Razgovor, Trick or Treat 2015
Summary:

Gen had to meet Bear, that was the only reason Shaw was at her new school on parents' day.

"Mirror" strikes a delicate balance between Shaw's canon issues with feelings and the sweetness you associate with kidfic. Bear assists. I recommend this to the "Shaw = complex" fans out there.

The Ties that Bind (1044 words) by Draycevixen
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Person of Interest (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Harold Finch/John Reese, Harold Finch/Nathan Ingram
Characters: Harold Finch, John Reese, Nathan Ingram
Additional Tags: Trick or Treat 2015, Old Friends, Denial of Feelings, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Baggage, Relationship Advice
Summary:

Written for Sprocket, for the Halloween Trick or Treat 2015 challenge.

Harold has a conversation with an old friend.

And I got Harold Finch getting romantic advice - nearly a "NOW KISS" - from the afterlife. Because, well, Harold. And John. Some people need a push.

The Years We Died (1365 words) by raspberryhunter
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Fringe
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Peter Bishop/Olivia Dunham, Peter Bishop & Alternate Walter Bishop
Characters: Peter Bishop, Alternate Walter Bishop
Additional Tags: trick - Freeform, Apocalypse, Rocks Fall Everyone Dies, Revenge, The literal destruction of worlds, AU of AU, But maybe not apocalypse in all timelines, Darkfic
Summary:

Peter came to ask Secretary Bishop for help after he'd killed his whole universe, everything he'd ever loved. What had he expected? That Secretary Bishop might kill him, or perhaps someone he loved: perhaps Olivia. And yet the Secretary was, apparently sincerely, offering his aid.

In which 2026!Walternate has a different plan. An AU of "The Day We Died."

If the full colons weren't a giveaway, the random question about darkfic should have been! Well played, [personal profile] raspberryhunter! The answer is, yes, this recip is on board with the literal and agonizing destruction of worlds.

I wrote "Recruitment" for Kimaracretak.
Recruitment (633 words) by sprocket
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Fringe
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Olivia Dunham, Nina Sharp, Phillip Broyles
Summary:

Nina Sharp has two conversations in two timelines. Set after "The Same Old Story."

I think the whole would have benefited from more attention before go-live,
but I'm pleased by some parts of this, and very much by the core idea. I plead a one-time Real Life Thing for being a slacker on this exchange.
sprocket: The trusted assistant at work (Astrid Fringe)
Back from an East Coast vacation, and what do I want to talk about? Harvard grazing rights. The band Udderly Tuba took part in the event and played a range of musical selections, including “Fair Harvard” and “Old MacDonald.” Fangirl moment aside, my wit fails me in the face of this utterly delightful evidence truth is weirder and more interesting than fiction.
sprocket: Red and yellow leaf image (Default)
In thrilling news, I have received Astrid Farnsworth-centric fic in two exchanges in a row. Fringe Wizardry is a variation on "Astrid is a wizard", and the author's note gives me warm fuzzy feelings: someone liked my fusion-ish idea enough to adopt it and make it their own.

Do people still do the "guess what I wrote and leave a prompt in comments" thing? I think it's dead easy to guess what I wrote, so honestly, I'd rather just throw open comments to drabble-ish prompts and ride the exchange high into additional word count.
sprocket: Red and yellow leaf image (Default)
I flippantly typed "Walter fanfic" during a conversation about S5, and [personal profile] raspberryhunter said, what if the entire S5 turned out to be just the ramblings of Walter writing self-insert RPF and I said WRITE IT.

And she did!

The Transilience of Liberty by raspberryhunter
Fandom: Fringe
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Peter Bishop/Olivia Dunham
Additional Tags: Humor, Crack, Characters Writing Fanfiction, Fifth season never really happened, Critique probably not disguised particularly well as fic

Summary:
In which it is revealed that the entirety of Fringe's S5 is all the fevered imaginings of a writer with an agenda.

Or: It's scary how much more sense fifth season makes if you postulate it as in-canon RPF.

(And in which the rest of the Fringe team critiques.)

Disclaimer: this isn't very reverent toward the fifth season. And I beta-read, so of course I think it's hilarious.

Other fannish items:

I watched the first season of Person of Interest. It's so easy to sketch out a crossover for Person of Interest mid-S1 / Fringe around "The End of All Things", or "Brave New World", I don't even want to write it. (Olivia's number comes up, Elias and/or HR has cut a deal with Meana, Reese narrowly avoids becoming collateral damage as Olivia saves herself, thank you very much. There is much lampshading of the numbers coming up in NYC - always NYC, how convenient - and violent crime rates in the USA, why these numbers when people get into trouble every day, etc.)

In other news, [community profile] crossovering will get written. Dear story, I am not above locking a couple of characters into an elevator until someone cracks and the plot gets going.
sprocket: Red and yellow leaf image (Default)
*facepalm*

Of course Fringe didn't have to push that hard to sell me on redverse Olivia/Lincoln, it's a variation on Susan/Marcus.

Brought to you by finally finishing my tl;dr RW Dear Author letter. Experimenting with haiku prompts - or limericks - is starting to sound like a good idea.

Hey look, I finished a thing!

Adjunct Talent (1951 words) by sprocket
Chapters: 1/1
Fandoms: Fringe, Young Wizards
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Astrid Farnsworth, Nita Callahan
Additional Tags: Episode Tag, Female Friendship, Crossover
Summary: Astrid's weekend New York plans don't always stay in New York. )

"I speak five languages, but I don’t speak Walter." - Astrid Farnsworth

In the best spirit of both sources, timelines and ages have been fudged to produce a more entertaining story. New Millennium Editions, what NMEs? Explicit references to elements of 1x04 “The Arrival”, Wizard’s Holiday, and Wizards at War. Thanks to [personal profile] raspberryhunter and [profile] kerithywn for beta-reading!

WiP Meme

Only a week after everyone else! Lines from 3 WiPs. Find the common element, it's... not that hard.

1.) Fringe Sedoretu fusion, double drabble excerpt )

2.) Adjunct Talent (Fringe / YW crossover) )

3.) The Amber Job (Fringe / Leverage, redverse, drabble excerpt) )

And then there's "A Redder Shade of You", which is stalled on my inability to figure out how to get from 4x01 to 4x17 without a lot of artistic license, or Lincoln catching an idiot-ball.
sprocket: Red and yellow leaf image (Default)
Rewatching "Over There" makes me wonder, how many times can you say Fringe rebooted? Massive spoilers right through the series finale. )

There were a bunch of interesting and sometimes gutsy storytelling decisions, as the show experimented with sticking to the story the showrunners wanted to tell against adapting to unexpected weaknesses - and strengths - uncovered during the evolution of Fringe. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. But clearly I care enough to poke at the multiseason structure for about 1500 words - without even getting into All The Olivia Feelings! - so it did something right, reboots and course changes and all.

I pulled [personal profile] elfin in this year's [community profile] fringe_exchange. Her prompt was:

Things I'd like: In general, I like super-smutty porn just as well as fluffy gen, and everything in between. I have a great fondness for characters being enthusiastic about their kinks. I like pairs, threesomes and moresomes all equally.

Specifically, I loved the adult Etta we saw in season 5 and a story about her would be amazing, whether it. Alt-Olivia/alt-Lincoln always makes me smile, as does alt-Olivia/alt-Charlie, and alt-Olivia/alt-Lincoln/alt-Charlie. Really, I just love alt-Olivia in all her snarky glory, whether paired with another character or not. Also, I love Olivia - character study, missing scene, anything. She's the best.

Things I wouldn't like: negativity toward alt-Olivia

And thought, I can do something with that.

8,200 words in the altverse later, this is that thing. Spoilers through 4x20 "Worlds Apart". Huge thanks to [personal profile] kerithwyn for telling me what didn't work, notating my more creative grammatical inventions, and making happy noises in the margins. Any flaws that remain (and I can see several) are all mine.

Title: Run This Town
Warnings: none
Characters: Redverse Olivia Dunham, Redverse Charlie Francis, Blueverse Lincoln Lee, Mona Foster, Redverse Walter Bishop, OCs
Summary: Can't be scared when it goes down / Got a problem, tell me now / Only thing that's on my mind / Is who’s going to run this town tonight )
sprocket: Red and yellow leaf image (Default)
Me: "When you get to the end of S2, tell me: am I crazy, or does Lincoln Lee give a Ray Kowalski vibe?"
Fannish bestie: "Nope. Way too muscle-y. But this other guy on Olivia's team - he did the jacket-thing, he totally had the vibe."
Me: "...that was Frank. You mixed up Frank and Lincoln. And you totally validated my reading."
[10 minutes of Frasier as walking Fringe event and possible Walter-Frasier setups ensure]

Go-to beta reader [personal profile] raspberryhunter, in email, on finishing the pilot: Also, I am totally supposed to get an UST vibe between Olivia and Peter, right? Because, uh, yeah. (Can I get spoiled as to whether they end up together?)

...ha ha ha oh to be back in S1.
sprocket: Red and yellow leaf image (Default)
Fannish bestie: I hope you're bookmarking all that fic for me. Dunno what people ship other than Peter/Olivia, show's totally into it.

Me: ...yeah, clearly you haven't gotten to the third season yet. *Bookmarks altverse OTP* *Bookmarks altverse OT3* *Bookmarks all the crossverse OT-multiples*
sprocket: Red and yellow leaf image (Default)
I have mainlined all of Fringe.

My feelings cannot be textually rendered. They are legion, and extreme, and sometimes contradictory, and also there is not enough sparkletext for my love of Olivia kicking ass.
sprocket: Red and yellow leaf image (Default)
It's X-Files meets Lost, and nominally monster of the week. But many of these monsters connect back to the choices of spoilers through 2x16. )

...consequences are one of my bulletproof narrative themes. Does it show?

MORE SPOILERS EEEE. )

And I haven't even gotten to NINA'S ARM. Or Nina! Or Astrid. Or Olivia Dunham, hypercompetent FBI agent. Or really highlighted an extremely likely consequence Walter skipped over: Yes, alllll the spoilers. )

AND ON TO 2X16.
